Where should we go today?
Our house is located very close to a bustling but small downtown area. On a single street, we can find fresh fruits and vegetables, The Best fresh smoothies, a 7/11 and amazing affordable street meats. We also know a very good place to get some massages when we need to relax. We’ve gone there and had ALMOST everything from the tops of our heads to the soles of our feet rubbed down. We pretty much have everything we need in our little neighborhood, and it’s all very close by.
…or we could just stay in.
But sometimes we don’t even want to leave the house. After a busy weekend morning where we teach English online, we just want to turn off our brains and relax. So we might order a snack or meal to be delivered. Heck, we might even deliver a whole feast if there’s something to celebrate, like that time in Shenzhen. We can even get some convenience items and groceries brought to the house. We daydreamed about being able to have a massage delivered until… this company called RLAX appeared in an expat group on Facebook and caught Kim’s eye.
As they’re just starting up, RLAX was looking for some beta testers to shoulder the burden of having a licensed and trained professional come to their residence for a massage at a reduced price. We just needed to provide feedback. Eager to participate and so excited for a massage, I even overlooked the missing “e” in my quest to find ways to RLAX. Always looking to help our fellow man, we decided to endure this challenge. Kim booked us a couples’ aromatherapy massage through this link but they offer other types of massage as well. They will even come to your work for stress relief! I wonder if they’d come to school?
“Sorry kids, Teacher Jamie’s busy for 90 minutes. Go read a book.”
Easy peasy, muscle squeezy
Communication was easy and we were well-informed about what the process would be and what we would need to prepare, which wasn’t much. All we needed to provide was a pillow for our lazy heads and the technicians would bring everything else. Around our scheduled appointment time, Pui and Won showed up to our front gate, massage mats and equipment slung over their shoulders, all smiles. They exuded professionalism, confidence and peace. We nodded to them and happily invited them in.
They quietly and efficiently set up their clean massage mats and soft sheets on our bedroom floor where we had asked them to. From their equipment bags they pulled their lotions, oils and a small aromatherapy candle that remained lit the entire session. (We wouldn’t know until later that the candle was ours to keep!) When they had set up everything, Pui explained they would leave the room and give us time to disrobe and get under the sheets.
In no time we were comfortably prone and getting our massage on. We both chose an herbal oil and it smelled so good! Serenity and relaxation wrapped around us like a blanket. We had chosen to play one of Kim’s Zen playlists on her phone. However, our massages lasted 90 minutes and Kim’s phone went idle after 60. We had few minutes of unexpected silence before Won, the male technician, quickly queued up his phone to play more relaxing music.
RLAX review: four very rested thumbs up
Overall, the experience was perfect! Our muscles received the pressure they needed. Our minds took a little break from teaching. And even if we hadn’t been beta testing and needed to pay full price, this experience was well worth the money. If you’re in Chiang Mai and are looking for ways to RLAX too, use our referral code to get 30% off!!! Type in T7QPJ when you book! Getting a massage is a treat all in its own. Getting a massage in the comfort of our home, with very little effort put forth on our part is almost too much to ask for. Hopefully before we leave Thailand we can find our ways back to RLAX again. I can’t believe this is our life!
