My fingers still smell like onions as I type this but I can’t wait to tell you about this burger place near the 85 Sky Tower landmark in Kaohsiung. We don’t eat burgers and fries often but when we do, THIS is the place. Typically we devour fresh veggies and lean chicken breast for our meals but every now and then, we want some French fries and a big handful of a burger. Let us tell you why Good Rolling is The Place you need to go for an upgraded burger experience in Kaohsiung.
Not just “Good,” they’re “Amazing”
They’re so amazing, in fact, that we went back a second time. And they really upped their game. When we first got to Taiwan and were getting our bearings in Kaohsiung in late March 2023, we did what we do best and went wandering near our room at the 85 Sky Tower.
The original location was much easier on the nose than it was on the eyes. The kitchen was outside but dark, and when you peeked inside, it was small, cast in a yellowish light. However, the aroma enticed us enough to look at the menu and once I saw “peanut butter bacon burger,” I was highly motivated to give them a try. Always a garlic fan, Kim chose the “overloaded garlic chicken” burger and we found a rickety metal table across the alley. It was cramped and well-shadowed, there may or may not have been a rat scuttling around in the bushes BUT these burgers were worth the 2 star environment.
Six months later…
We’re out on a typical date day (aka grocery shopping) and decide we could scarf down a burger in between stores. We used 85 Sky Tower as a reference to find the old burger place on Google Maps and were shocked to see the establishment had moved AND greatly upgraded. We weren’t sure it was even the same place we had eaten at in March until we asked one of the workers. Behold its new glory!
You have the option to eat inside or order takeaway at the window outside. Grab their Insta code on your way downstairs so you can leave a review like we did. Tell everyone to come! (But not when we’re there because we like it quiet.) After you descend the rather steep stairs, you’re birthed into a bright dining room full of clean tables and comfortable seats.
Scan the QR code at your table, choose the English option on the online menu and order your paradise. You receive a QR code on your phone after placing your order. Take that to the Pick Up window and pay and soon you’ll have hot boxes of burgers and fries to feast on.
There’s good news and there’s bad news
As you can see from the photos, the new facilities are top-notch. They replaced the dark alley corner with a large, clean dining room with an industrial vibe. For $35 NTD you can indulge in unlimited fountain drinks. Enjoy their WiFi and wait for your masterpiece of an upgraded burger experience to get in your face.
The bad news relates to the menu and the lack of the peanut butter bacon burger. Gasp! Ever since Kim had suggested we return to Good Rolling, I had been thinking about that burger I’d eaten in March. My sweet and savory daydream was shattered. They did discontinue the garlic burger too BUT they now offer new and equally amazing burgers, like the hashbrown pork burger with tartar sauce. (Their tartar sauce is just like Big Mac sauce.)
The French fries have lost weight over the summer, going from steak size to shoestring. However, size truly does not matter in this case. They were crispy and delicious before and they still are.
We’re already thinking about our third trip
The clean interior and efficient ordering system welcome customers. The friendly, helpful staff are just icing on the cake, er, Big Mac sauce on the bun of this place! The burgers are a double-fisting delight. They maintain their new interior very well. Good Rolling promotes their food AND good vibes. They truly deliver on both for an upgraded burger experience in Kaohsiung. This is their Facebook page that might need a little updating. Their Insta is almost as amazing as the restaurant, with beautiful pictures of their amazing food.
Update on 9/9/2024: Good Rolling quickly replied to our Google review with the best news ever! Now we give them 6 out of 5 stars.
